A check valve is a type of valve that protects various equipment, pipelines, pumps and pressure vessels from changing the flow direction of the medium in the process system, and also restricts the flow of the medium from the system in case of partial destruction of the pipeline section.

The principle of operation of the check valve is based on the automatic closing of the passage section by a locking body (for example, a gate or disc) under the action of the reverse flow of the working medium. The medium, moving in a given direction, creates pressure at the valve inlet, thereby lifting the gate by its own weight or with the help of additional devices (for example, springs), and when the pressure decreases, the locking mechanism closes the flow section, closing the valve.
